MI-2
Director/Cast ' John Woo/Tom
Cruise, Dougray Scott, Thandie Newton
Tom Cruise reprises his role as Ethan Hunt in this sequel to the 1996 original.
In MI-2, Hunt's mission is to track down a rogue IMF agent called Sean Ambrose
(Scott) who has stolen an extremely deadly new virus and it's cure Chimera and
Valerathon.
In order to aid him in his mission Hunt enlists the help of Nyah (Newton) a
jewel thief who has a sexual history with Ambrose, Luther (Ving Rhames)
returns as the computer expert and an Aussie agent Billy Baird is the chopper
pilot.
Let me say that this is the ULTIMATE SUMMER MOVIE for three reasons:
1. Its Brainless.
2. It's Loud.
3. There's a plot a Monkey could follow (No, is this a war movie
sort of question after 30 seconds).
The film starts well and despite reviews which said that there was a 40 minute
lull, I never felt that the film slowed. Following the exhilarating first 20
minutes, the action halts while the team is formed and you're given a bit of
character building and then you've got a fantastic final hour
If you enjoy John Woo movies then there is no reason why you won't enjoy this as
it is full of his usual traits Two Guns, Doves, Kung Fu & Slow Motion shots.
Far better than the original this is a must see.
Hi there, Marc here again and it’s now over 24 hours since I’ve seen MI:2 and I’m still thinking about how good it is.
Why do I enjoy this film so much.
Firstly, Dougray Scott is great as the villain and the way that he slags off Cruises character, shows that Cruise has a sense of humour (Lets face it, if you’re the Producer and you don’t like something, would you allow it to be in the final cut!).
Thandie Newton and the love triangle!.
Thandie Newton’s performance is slightly wooden as Nyah Hall, however, she’s a babe so who cares, I mean she has that sultry look that has you believing that Ambrose is still hurting since she left and you realise why Hunt falls for her so quickly.
The direction by Woo will have some people saying it’s one of the worst films they’ve seen as there’s a lot of slow motion and some scenes at the end that flick away from the shootouts to show Nyah wandering aimlessly or ocean waves. Some may say that it’s pretentious cheesy pap but hey, it works for me.
However, what cannot be disputed about the director is his handling of action, the break in at Biocyte and the resultant shootout is phenomenal.
Also, the scene in the lab between Cruise & Newton where he realises he can’t escape along with her is straight from Last Of The Mohicans, picture it Hawkeye’s under the waterfall with Madeleine Stowe saying “No matter where you are, I’ll find you” before jumping through the waterfall. Hunt to Hall “No matter what happens/where you are I’ll find you” before Hunt jumps through the hole in the wall and parachutes to safety.
Also, the Kung Fu ending may have some saying believability has now left the building, but if you’ve enjoyed the movie thus far you’re not going to care.
This movie is great and I can’t wait to see it again.
